Military relocations tend to differ from your typical residential move. As the customer, you are responsible for talking to the facilitators of the base which is usually the base commanders, letting them know about the planned moving date so that the movers can access the base without hesitation. Youโll also be asked to provide the official orders of your relocation from base to base. Bay Area Movers is familiar with military relocations and how to deal with them. Your PCS (Permanent Change of Station) move is usually paid for by the military. Make sure you arrange this with your base commander or the person in charge of this PCS orders. Since there are restrictions on the amount of belongings youโre allowed to bring, the military may also pay for your storage solutions.
Your Responsibility during a PCS Move
During your move from one base to the next, you are held responsible for several facets of the relocation. Itโs important that you own up to your responsibilities if you wish to experience a smooth moving process. The military will give you a date in which you must report on the base you were assigned to. Youโll need to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure that you are on assigned military base by that time.
If you decide to contact a moving company for services, keep all the receipts for the moving expenses. The costs of the move are not taxable and will be deducted from your government allowance for the relocation. Any extra money will be given to you after the move is completed and a claim for PPM allowance is filed. The money left over after the moving expenses will be taxed. Do not expect to receive the exact amount noted.
The military does offer government ran moving services to all of their personnel. However, many active military members prefer not to use these services. By hiring a moving company nearby, you can save money and avoid any discrepancies that tend to come with government moving services.
